Last night the husband was happy to join in this to-do list exercise and help me cross item #86 off my list - visit a bar or restaurant on H Street NE.
For those not from the DC Metro, the H Street Corridor is an "up and coming" neighborhood just a few blocks northeast of our cozy Capitol Hill apartment. The neighborhood has undergone a serious transformation recently - when I moved to DC just three short years ago, the area was dirty, dreary and frankly, a little scary. One by one, though, fun new bars and restaurants have been opening along the main strip, breathing new life into the historic neighborhood.
As we've heard about these new hot spots - places like H Street Country Club, Sticky Rice and Star & Shamrock - the husband and I have been throwing them onto a "to visit... sometime" list. Last night, during the Tuesday-night TV drought, we decided to finally make good on that list and headed to H Street for a few post-dinner drinks. The highlight of our quick crawl down H Street was easily the newly-opened beer garden - Biergarten Haus.
For fear of this blog becoming a restaurant review site, I'll keep my re-cap to a minimum: I could not have been happier with a bar than I was with Biergarten Haus last night. Cold German beer served on an expansive covered patio truly hit the spot. You'd better believe I'll be heading back - even if this to-do is already crossed off!
